AIDS was first discovered around 1981. Scientist believe that it came from Green Monkeys from South Africa. These Green Monkeys had a disease called SIV(Simian(monkey)Immunodeficiency Virus. This virus is similar to the virus called HIV(Humane Immune Deficiency Virus) HIV causes AIDS. Scientist still wonder how the disease was transferred from monkey to human.

One way scientist thinks is that, a human may have ate an infected monkey and got the disease that way. The process of viruses passing from animal to human is called zoonosis. They also think that it could have been a polio experiment that went wrong.
